In July of 2016, after months of planning and research, three organizations from across the state came together to create Imagine the Possibilities, Inc. with the mission of “Individual Achievement!” These three organizations (DAC, Inc., Imagine the Possibilities, Inc. and Midwest Opportunities, Inc.) wanted to be proactive and set a solid foundation for services for years to come in order to effectively work with the new implementation of Managed Care that was now overseeing funding…

DAC was able to assume providing services to the Community Care individuals and purchased the campus and homes owned by Community Care.  The buildings were remodeled, and in August 2015, the Administrative Offices were moved from Maquoketa to DeWitt, Iowa; a more centralized location.

DAC’s Residential & Vocational Services expanded into Clinton County and also began offering services to Jones County and Scott County!

DAC transitions out of the Julien Care Facility in Dubuque and into Andrew Jackson Care Facility in rural Bellevue, Iowa. Our Andrew Jackson Care Facility is a 16-bed RCF/PMI facility. DAC purchased three more homes in Dubuque, Iowa for our Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Division.

DAC continues to grow and expand their Home & Community Based Services with the purchase of a third home in Dubuque, Iowa. DAC has begun offering 24-hour and hourly residential services in the Clinton and DeWitt areas. A new site (Aldi’s building) was purchased to accommodate the growth of Day Habilitation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. DAC purchased yet another home in Dubuque; one in Clinton; and one in DeWitt, Iowa. Additionally, DAC opened a satellite office in DeWitt.

DAC purchased Briarwood Nursing Home and converted it to a 4-bedroom site. In July 2009, DAC expanded their Home & Community Based Services by adding 2 homes in the Dubuque area.

DAC purchased a second home in Bellevue, Iowa. An addition was made to our Administration Building to include 5 additional offices and a conference/training room.

In June 2006, DAC, Inc. took over management of the Julien Care Facility in Dubuque, Iowa.

2005

In the summer of 2005 DAC started Day Habilitation Services at its Vocational Center, which eventually outgrew the space. This service offers individuals opportunities to participate in community activities, as well as learning skills such as cooking, safety, etc. DAC also began offering Representative Payee services, and now provides this service to 100+ individuals.

Manifest Destiny changed its organizations name to Midwest Opportunities, Inc. to better reflect the program and its mission of “Individual Achievement”

1996

DAC, Inc. purchased a for-profit injection molding plastics company (ITW-Fastex) which was called A-DAC Industries, Inc. This purchase enabled DAC to have a viable option for an “enclave” of workers to become part of a competitive work force.

Another duplex was constructed and opened in Preston, Iowa. Since that time, several other homes have been purchased in the Maquoketa area, and are rented to individuals with disabilities to enable them to live as independently as possible.

In May of 1995, DAC opened a duplex (dedicated to the memory of Fr. Bill McLaughlin) in Maquoketa, Iowa.

In the early ‘90’s a home was donated by Oscar & Camilla Skott. One of the individuals served by DAC moved into the home in March of 1993. The home has since been sold and the proceeds used to purchase a newer home to allow living space to more individuals with disabilities.

Manifest Destiny (Midwest Opportunities, Inc.) was incorporated as a non-profit organization and the planning and construction of five ICF/ID homes began.

A new building was completed next to our Recycling Center and DAC moved its Administrative and Vocational Services into that site.

DAC purchased the old “Chessline Building” and converted it into a recycling building, in which all recycling was done for the Jackson County area. A lot of equipment was purchased over the years with the generous donations from the Maquoketa Area Foundation and the Jackson County Landfill Agency, as well as grants through the Department of Natural Resources, and assistance from the local community.

In 1989, DAC was able to construct a 12-bed Intermediate Care Facility for the Intellectually Disabled (ICF/ID), known as Prairie House, which opened its doors in January of 1990.

1987

A home was purchased in Bellevue, Iowa and was operated as a licensed Residential Care Facility for the Intellectually Disabled (RCF/ID). In the early ‘90’s the RCF/ID status was lifted, and DAC began serving individuals in the home through the Home and Community Based Waiver (HCBS). In 2002 a separate 2-bedroom apartment was constructed in the basement.

Officially changed name to DAC, Inc. in March 1986. The agency at that time provided services to 25 individuals. At the present time, DAC serves approximately 450 individuals in several different programs and employs around 420 dedicated staff.

Our diligent volunteer board in Oskaloosa realized their dream when a fifteen bed group home licensed as a RCF/MR was opened on South 11th Street that would provide residential services to adults with disabilities.

Established under the name Mahaska Diamond Shelter, in October 1977, Imagine the Possibilities is a private, not-for-profit corporation. For nearly four years, our volunteer board conducted research and fund drives with the goal that some day a facility would exist in Oskaloosa that would provide residential services to adults with disabilities.

DAC, Inc. has been providing services to individuals with disabilities since 1973, when it was first incorporated under the name of Jackson County Developmental Activity Center.
