In 1989, DAC was able to construct a 12-bed Intermediate Care Facility for the Intellectually Disabled (ICF/ID), known as Prairie House, which opened its doors in January 1990.

In the same year, Mahaska Diamond Shelter in Oskaloosa purchased, renovated, and opened two residential homes operating as 5-bed Residential Care Facilities for the Intellectually Disabled (RCF/ID).
