Our Core Values

Imagine the Possibilities operates on ten core values:

Human Rights
Dignity and Respect for All
Community and Home
Open Communication
Honesty
Kindness
Empowerment
Individual Potential
Wellbeing of Individuals
Ethical and Legal Business Practices

These core values are the driving force of our mission-reminding us each day how we can achieve the goal of individual achievement for all. Our dedicated staff, whether working in direct support or administration, closely follow these as both ethical guidelines and a way of life. We operate our agency with integrity and pride, and we confidently consider our core values in our everyday lives. They shape our culture, drive our teamwork, and above all- ensure the best possible care is given to the individuals we have the privilege of serving.

Our Mission

Our mission. Our driving force. The sentiment we hold so closely in our hearts.

“Empowering people to reach individual achievement across the spectrum of life.”

Caring for individuals with disabilities isn’t just what we do, it’s who we are. Since 1973, Imagine the Possibilities has been providing exceptional, community-based support for individuals in small town Iowa. Our roots run deep, and our care for our communities has only strengthened over time.

We believe in creating opportunities through an array of community services. Quite simply, the people we serve are given an environment that promotes laughter and joy, a place where life is celebrated and energies are not focused on barriers or what seems to be impossible. Rather, we intend to focus the full force of our energy on seeing beyond disability and imagining all that is possible! We believe that people with disabilities need to do for themselves as much as possible. We can provide teaching, options, support and the necessary skills and tools, but only they can combine all of these resources and bring their own dreams to life.

Most importantly, we pour our hearts into this mission each day-because we truly believe in all that is possible.

Celebrating Our Amazing DSPs.

Honoring some of our incredible DSPs for their special week! Let’s hear from Justus Zelinsky.
Justus Zelinsky exemplifies what it means to be a dedicated, compassionate, and person-centered Direct Support Professional. Over the past 2–3 years, Justus has become a cornerstone of support for individuals served in the Dubuque area. She brings to her work a unique combination of empathy, creativity, and initiative that elevates the quality of care and promotes independence and dignity in the lives of those she supports.
We sat down with Justus to discuss her career as a Direct Support Professional. When asked what motivated her to become a DSP, Justus said “I wanted to help people in some way. Previously I had received a Mental Health Certificate through Hillcrest and NICC. My friend was currently working with Imagine and told me about the job and I knew it would be the perfect fit for me.” Justus explained that the most rewarding aspect of her career is watching the individuals she supports accomplish their goals; a common theme amongst our DSPs. We wanted to hear more about some of the strategies Justus uses that make her such an exceptional DSP, so we dove into topics of personal growth and independence. Justus explained, “After learning more information about client’s ability to communicate, I use my person-centered training and brainstorm ideas to fill their needs. For example, I developed a picture clip art chart of groceries and laminated them and put Velcro on them for her to create her grocery list without being able to read. When working on goals, I make sure to be alongside the person to assist and guide them through it. A lot of helpful strategies I use involve lists and charts that work well. I put myself in the clients’ shoes and try to see what things mean to them and then give them reasoning as to what’s needed or not.”
We are incredibly thankful for the insight and knowledge that Justus chose to share with us. It is clear that she embodies the Imagine mission in all that she does.

Celebrating our amazing DSPs during their special week! Next up, Jody Brown!
Jody is new to Imagine, having been a Direct Support Professional in Region 4 for about a year. Jody’s work ethic can be described in two words: Person-Centered. Jody’s approach with individuals is unmatched. He is a dynamic problem solver, extremely trustworthy, and has compassion for everyone around him. He is tentative with all individuals, monitoring likes, dislikes, emotions, and more to be able to provide adequate services for each person. Jody’s ability to speak and address situations in a comforting tone has allowed him to become a client favorite; as many feel he is approachable and trustworthy no matter what.
Jody frequently encourages community activity and helps show the individuals served the importance of forming positive relationships with neighbors, local businesses, and more. He often orchestrates community events, even if it is as simple as walking around town, to help the individuals integrate. He also helps individuals connect with family, friends, and guardians by encouraging positive contact when they are able.
Overall, Jody’s caring and compassionate heart has made him an excellent DSP in a short time frame. His ability to speak with respect, kindness, and sincerity towards his clients has made him a favorite in the office and around the homes. He is an example to his colleagues, with many agreeing he is the kind of peer, friend, and person you would likely want to surround yourself with.
